Fairfield Women's Club Soccer is nearing the end of their season with only two games left and a 3-2-1 record. Quinnipiac is some of Fairfield's best competition and Fairfield came to this game prepared, with high intensity and great energy on this Friday night game under the lights. To start off the game, in the forward line were sophomore
Megan Gallagher, junior
Sara Grgurovic, and sophomore
Ava Koziol. In the midfield line were, senior Faith-Anne Cusack-McParllin, junior
Claire Carney, and senior
Micaela Potamis. In the defensive line were, junior
Jessica Bossi, junior
Ellie Gagne, junior
Allie MacDonald, and senior
Kathryn Engelhardt. Finally, the goalkeeper, senior Madison Marlabano.
The first half of the game started oM mostly even with both teams evenly spread in their offensive sides. Fairfield's offense connected and worked well together, finding the splits and making their way up the field. Towards the middle of the first half, sophomore
Megan Gallagher scored a goal in the top left corner of the net. Quickly following that, senior Faith-Ann Cusack-McParllin put another one in the top of the net. When Quinnipiac made their way up to Fairfield's defensive circle, senior goalkeeper, Madison Marlabano had great saves leaving no goals scored by Quinnipiac in the first half. "In the first half we outworked them and were able to score goals through the middle, oM long balls," says junior
Ava Giangrande. This finished off the first half with Fairfield up 2-0.
Starting the second half, the team came back ready to continue their movement and patience on the field. Fairfield's offense continued their good structure, but this second half ended up being more defensive for the team. Quinnipiac scored 2 goals in the middle of the second half. This fired Fairfield up and enabled them to continue to play well throughout the second half. Although this game ended in a tie (leaving their record at 3-2-1), Fairfield fought hard until the end and felt good about this tie.
The game had a positive energy straight until the end and was a competitive game for Fairfield. "Quinnipiac is always one of our biggest competitors," says senior
Micaela Potamis, "but we definitely fought hard to the end, and I think we should be happy with our tie." Junior Allie MacDondald said, "It was a pretty evenly matched game, and the vibes and intensity were high and fun on this Friday night game." Looking forward to the end of their season, Fairfield hopes to win their two final games, continue bonding with the team, and keep the energy and excitement up.
