This past Sunday, November 4th, Fairfield Club Tennis played against one of their biggest rivals, Sacred Heart. This match was a close one, but Fairfield pulled out the win 79-70. The team had three rounds of matches and had a few close calls.
In one of the matches, junior Madison Phillips and sophomore
Gillian Graham, had to play a tie breaker. With their determination and energy, they were able to pull out the win. "At first we thought we had it, and we were on a roll, then SHU started to catch up, but thankfully we were able to pull it out," says Madison Phillips. "It was a very intense match, and we always have interesting matches together," says
Gillian Graham. They said they are looking forward to going indoors and hope to have an indoor match in their Spring season.
Freshman Andrew Hedden shared some thoughts about the match so far and his match specifically. "My match was good we came out with the win. We didn't have the best serves, but we got through it. We won six games to four. My partner
Charlotte Black picked me up when I needed it, and we were able to win."
Sophomore
Jackson Willis mentions, "The season is going well so far, and practices are very fun. We are able to get work done while also having fun. One of our standout players on the team and so far in this match is sophomore
Jonah Ng."
Jonah shared some thoughts about his match. "I started out strong went up 3-0 and my opponent got into a rhythm and came back a bit. It was close the whole way and I managed to pull out the win in the end." Because Jonah is one of the best players on the team, he shared some thoughts about his experience playing tennis. "I've been playing since I was five, so I have been playing for a while. I played in tournaments and matches. I really began to enjoy it and have been playing ever since."
Junior
Jake Lowenstein shared some thoughts about the season and team culture. "So far, this season is going pretty well. We started out slow but were able to work it out in practice. It's been a lot of fun. The team culture is unique and something I have never experienced before. Everyone is so nice and enjoyable to be around."
Closing out their final match of the fall season, Fairfield club tennis continues to work hard in practice. They look forward to the Spring season and enjoy playing with each other.
