The Fairfield University Club Tennis teams capped off another strong season on Senior Day,
April 21. The Stags faced off against rival schools Sacred Heart, Trinity, and New Haven,
finishing second in a day long tournament. This was Fairfield's first senior day in four years due
to weather and Covid-related issues.
"It was amazing to be able to celebrate again", said senior Emma Falkowski, who is one of six
club officers. As an officer, Emma is responsible for creating the schedule, completing
paperwork, organizing team events, and managing the budget. The leadership of Emma and her
fellow officers are a major reason for the team's consistent success throughout the past few
years. The team won the New England Divisional Championship in 2019 and 2023 and were
undefeated at home this past fall season.
The team requires a strong level of commitment, with year-round practices and 6 tournaments
throughout the fall and spring. The team even has nationally ranked players, with some training
abroad in the off-season.
Regardless, Emma and fellow senior officer Lucas Smith say the most enjoyable part of being on
the team stretches far beyond the court. "Some of my lifelong friendship that I've developed over
these last four years at Fairfield have come from being on the club tennis team", says Lucas.
"While being on a team playing a sport I love is awesome, I'll forever be grateful for the
friendships I've built and maintained over the years here".
While the seniors are naturally emotional to be graduating and leaving the team, they are
confident that they are leaving the team in good hands. "Our underclassmen are incredible", says
Emma. "As officers we are looking forward to seeing how amazing club tennis will flourish
under the leadership that takes over once we leave. We expect the team to continue to be close
and support each other". If the team's future officers are anything like their current ones, the
club tennis team will continue to excel on and off the court.
