The Fairfield University Women's Club Lacrosse team opened its season with a dominant 14-2 victory over the New York University Bobcats on Sunday, October 19th, at Rafferty Stadium. With the Stags' first game of the season, they showed a strong start with an impressive offensive and defensive performance that gives high hopes for the rest of their season.
The game started with an early goal from #28 Avery Reimer, taking the lead that Fairfield held for the remainder of the game. Quick passes up the field led to several strong scoring opportunities, as #21 Stephanie Reap, #11 Grace Crisafulli, #8 Madeline Lievi, #1 Ava Sobolak, #34 Sophia Meade, #10 Kacey McGorry, and #16 Sophia Farrell each found the back of the net in the first half. On the defensive end, Fairfield controlled ground balls and had strong communication, which allowed NYU to convert only two goals before halftime. The Stags ended the first half with a comfortable 8-2 lead.
The second half featured a shutout by #33, goalie Maeve Vernon. Offensively, Meade and Reap each secured three goals in the game, with McGorry adding her second, and #32 Maeve Bruton with her first in the game. The dominant performance resulted in an incredible 14-2 win for Fairfield, marking a strong start to their season. This intense energy carried into their later game, resulting in two great wins for the Stags this past Sunday!
