The Fairfield University Men's Club Lacrosse team defeated the Quinnipiac Bobcats by a score of 11-2 on Friday, March 28th at Rafferty Stadium. The Stags improve to 4-2 on the young season and earn their third straight victory.
Finding the back of the net early and often, Fairfield took a lead to start and never surrendered it. Their fast-paced ball movement yielded many good looks on the net, and they made sure not to squander them. Junior attack
Harry Griff scored first, followed by freshman attack Declan Gavin to build an early 2-0 lead. Defensively, Fairfield sophomore
Sean Achenson and his fellow defenders were sharp and aggressive, wreaking havoc on Quinnipiac and shutting down their attackers.
Of the few shots the Bobcats did manage to get on goal, Fairfield freshman goalie
Robert Turnbull showed impressive reaction time to swat most of them away, particularly with an impressive dive to save a ball and protect his net. By halftime, Fairfield commanded a 7-0 lead and showed no signs of slowing down.
The second half of the game was yet another one dominated by the Stags, as they would add four more goals as opposed to Quinnipiac's two. "We came prepared and ready to play…we have a tight-knit group, there was no way we were gonna get beat by another MAAC team on our home field," said Achenson after the game.
Came prepared they did. The Stags will now be hitting the road to face Marist University in Poughkeepsie, NY, on Friday, April 4th, where they look to increase their win streak to four and gain another valuable conference victory.
