Stags Hold Off Army in Gritty Fashion Friday Night with 10–8 Win

Friday night, rain began to fall as Fairfield Men's Club Lacrosse hosted Army under the lights at Rafferty Field. The Stags battled through a physical, high-energy matchup to secure a 10–8 victory.

Fairfield came out strong, opening the game with a faceoff win and immediately setting the tone with an energized, vocal bench that forced early turnovers from Army. Despite a huge save by senior goaltender Teddy O'Keefe, Army struck first to take a 1–0 lead.

The Stags responded quickly, as senior Sean Tennyson buried an unassisted shot to even the score. After a stretch of unforced turnovers on both sides, Fairfield tightened up defensively, highlighted by a strong one-on-one stop from sophomore Packy Quinn. Momentum shifted late in the first quarter when freshman Owen Packard capitalized on a crease roll, giving Fairfield a 2–1 lead heading into the second.

Fairfield carried that energy into the next quarter, winning another faceoff and extending their lead to 3–1 after Andrew Epifania drove to the net for a goal. A man-up opportunity soon followed, and the Stags capitalized to push the lead to 4–1. Army answered with a goal of their own, but Packard struck again for Fairfield to make it 5–2.

Army began to chip away at the lead, taking advantage of a Fairfield penalty to make it 5–3, then adding another to cut the deficit to one. Heading into halftime, the Stags held a narrow 5–4 advantage.

Coming out of the break, Fairfield once again controlled the faceoff. Epifania tallied a highlight-reel man-up goal while falling to the turf, extending the lead to 6–4. Army continued to apply relentless pressure, bringing the game within one at 6–5, but Fairfield responded with a key goal to regain momentum. The Stags kept attacking, adding another to take an 8–5 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

To open the final quarter, sophomore James Spring turned it into a one-man show, winning the faceoff and taking it himself for a goal to give Fairfield a 9–5 cushion. Army refused to go away, scoring back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 9–7. However, Tennyson stepped up once again, finding the back of the net to make it 10–7.

Army added one late goal, but it wasn't enough as the Stags held strong down the stretch to secure the 10–8 win. Fairfield's dominance at the faceoff and the constant energy from the bench proved to be key factors in the victory.
