Women’s Club Basketball Dominates Adelphi University

Fairfield came out with confidence and control in its matchup against Adelphi University,
setting the tone early with a strong starting lineup and never looking back. The Stags opened the
game with sophomores Mia Theberge, Alyssa Spagnuolo, and Olivia Tedeschi-Moran, alongside
seniors Danielle Nicosia and Morgan Shirley, a group that immediately showed chemistry on
both ends of the floor.
The momentum began almost instantly when Shirley knocked down the first shot of the
game, a three-pointer that energized Fairfield and established early control. Theberge followed
with an aggressive shot of her own, setting the pace offensively. Fairfield's movement in the
back end was sharp, pairing clean defensive rotations with strong rebounding presence. Theberge
consistently positioned herself for second-chance opportunities, staying ready on the glass and
continuing to attack the basket.
Offensively, Fairfield emphasized finishing and execution, swinging the ball efficiently at
the top and creating space under the offensive side of the net. That movement paid off as the
Stags closed the first quarter with a 15–11 lead, maintaining composure against an Adelphi team
that played scrappy and physical, often resorting to aggressive fouls.
The second quarter saw Fairfield tighten up defensively while pushing the tempo. Clean
defensive stops turned into controlled offensive possessions, allowing Fairfield to stretch its lead
while staying disciplined. By halftime, Fairfield had firmly established control with a 32–21
advantage.
Coming out of the break, Fairfield showed no signs of slowing down. The Stags
continued to dictate the pace, using quick ball movement and sustained aggression to overwhelm
Adelphi on both ends of the court. By the end of the third quarter, Fairfield had built a
commanding 50–27 lead, showcasing consistency, depth, and composure.
The final quarter was a continuation of Fairfield's dominant performance. Strong
defense, smart execution, and relentless energy carried the team through the closing minutes as
they secured a decisive 57–32 victory. From the opening possession to the final buzzer, Fairfield
maintained control, delivering a complete performance marked by teamwork, tempo, and
toughness.
Senior Vice President, Danielle Nicosia says, "We always appreciate the opportunity to
play in the arena and appreciate everyone who came out to support us! It was a great overall
team win in both games and we are looking forward to our next matchup versus our cross town
rivals (SHU) on Saturday the 21st at home! Come support!"
